Wildfires from 35,000 feet.

Looting a few hundred feet from our apartment. Sirens screaming and helicopters thundering day and night. National Guard on the streets. The stench from a burning building filled our apartment last night. We are living through history.

First time in my nation’s capital. Was there for a very, very quick work trip. It’s an odd feeling to see something you know like the back of your hand, but that you’ve never actually seen before. I’d like to go back, preferably not for work, and preferably more than 24 hours.

Doodled this the morning I read about the Orlando shootings. I woke up to a barrage of Facebook notifications from friends who still live there. They all set a confirmed “Safe Status” to let friends and family know they weren’t dead. It’s as real as all this has gotten for me so far. Not just strangers in strange towns this time.

I don’t have a clue about the answers, but it certainly seems like something is terribly wrong.
